ESSAR Steel Ltd., which is one of the biggest steel corporations, awarded a contract to ACREG Process Technology GmbH for modernizing the existing fluidized bed plant for acid regeneration at Hazira site, India. The aim of this contract was to reduce emissions to a minimum, maximize availability, and simplify operation via full automatization, as well as to increase capacity by 10%.
The revamping took place during a very short shut-down of the plant in summer 2007, and it was brought to completition through perfect cooperation with the client as planned, and without delays and spotless zero accident record. The flue gas cleaning was advanced, and existing parts renewed. Both the plant instrumentation control software and the HMI (Human Machine Interface) were updated to state-of-the-art level.
The latest security aspects were especially considered. Parts of the piping system were improved and simplified in order to reach energy efficiency by minimizing losses. It could be determined during the acceptance tests in OCtober 2007, that the capacity was increased by more than 10%.
And the emissions were reduced to the lowest levels ever measured before. The operating staff was impressed by the new operation of the plant.
Consequently, the Final Acceptance Certificate was issued at once without any further requirements, and therewith the contract was successfully concluded.
